Labour Costing and Data Collection
The Customer
Glenair is the world's leading supplier of military-spec and commercial connector accessories.
The problem
Glenair had no way of economically tracking the jobs and operations their staff were undertaking. Normal methods of data collection were not economic or practical in the workshop environment.
The P&Q solution
Rather than using dedicated data collection terminals which are too expensive to be used where they are needed on the shop floor, we were able to provide cheap and simple barcode scanners connected directly to ethernet ports, rather than requiring a PC for each scanner, which would have been impractical (and expensive) in the production area.
These scanners are all controlled centrally from a single PC running QTAR which validates the data (employee, job number and operation) before updating an SQL database belonging to a manufacturing system. QTAR rejects incorrect input as it happens, notifying the operative audibly, so that the input can be corrected immediately.
The result
Glenair management now know exactly what their operatives are currently working on (or why they aren't) and how long each operation and job has taken or is taking.
