Typical Features and Capabilities of Readers and Data Collection Terminals that can be connected to QTAR Systems:

Readers and Data Collection Terminals come in a wide variety of formats to suit different environments, such as:

  • Office use
  • Industrial use
  • Outdoor use
  • Fully waterproof
  • Fireproof
  • Intrinsically Safe (for use in explosive gas environments, etc)
  • Portable
  • Wedge readers (connected to a PC in conjunction with the keyboard)

with different types of connectivity, including:

  • Ethernet
  • RS422
  • RS232
  • Modem
  • CAT 5

and power requirements, such as:

  • Mains voltage (usually 220/230/240 V AC or 110 V AC)
  • Low voltage powered by mains adaptor, CAT 5 or battery (e.g. 12 V, 6 V)

display sizes and types:

  • No display
  • 4 digits
  • 1-4 lines of 16-40 characters
  • 25 lines of 80 characters
  • Graphics, GUI or Windows-style displays

and keyboard types:

  • No keypad
  • In/Out button
  • 10-digit PIN pad
  • Numeric key pad with 2-12 function keys
  • Full alphanumeric keypad with function keys

They may be simple readers with no memory, or able to store a few hundred to tens of thousands of transactions. They may be able to independently validate badges, people and keyed data, and they may be fully programmable data collection terminals.

All of the above types of input device, and many more, can be connected to QTAR Systems. And of course, there are many types of output devices that QTAR Systems can interface with or control.
